3Play Media

Startup that’s now a leader in video captioning needed a new website

Did you know that 1 in 3 people have some sort of disability/difficulty accessing the web?

Well 3Play Media does. They’re a Boston-based startup that was in the right place at the right time.

They do captioning and translation for video. And back in 2007 that wasn’t such a big deal, but nowadays pretty much every video that’s uploaded to YouTube needs to have captions.

Every Third Person

3Play Media reached out to 3 Media Web for the makeover with Robbie Moore as creative director to address the primary challenge: accessibility. Their new site needed to be WCAG-compliant so that all visitors – even those with color blindness, attention deficits or hearing loss. Every visitor needed to be able to easily navigate and understand the content on the site.

But that didn’t mean it needed to be boring. Even with lots of pure black text on a pure white background, 3Play Media was still able to have an animated caption effect for the main headlines on the home page.

It might even be the world’s first fully accessible website with “wow” factor.
